Illustrations from the early 20th century with a wonderful medievalish / Pre-Raphaelite thing going on here. There were hard copies at a bibliotheque to the south of Clevelandia that I kept on my shelf for as long as I could get away with, since such gold-stamped, thick paged illumined loveliness isn't cheap to acquire even on the Internets...
In that second image, that's a palantir I reckon.
